CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
American Talent Jobs is conducting a confidential executive search for a Chief Financial Officer on behalf of one of our clients, an established nonprofit organization based in Bridgeport, Connecticut.
Reporting directly to the President and CEO, the Chief Financial Officer will serve as a key member of the senior leadership team and provide strategic and operational oversight of the organization’s financial function.
This position requires an experienced nonprofit finance executive who can protect the organization’s financial integrity, navigate complex funding and revenue streams, strengthen internal controls, and provide sound financial guidance to executive leadership and the Board of Directors.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversee all financial reporting activities, including revenue and expenses, balance sheets, cash flow, funding reports, contracts, and grant budgets.
- Serve as a strategic financial partner to the President and CEO.
- Lead the preparation and monitoring of annual operating and capital budgets.
- Ensure accurate and timely budget-to-actual reporting across organizational programs, service lines, and departments.
- Develop and maintain financial policies, procedures, and internal controls that safeguard organizational assets.
- Ensure compliance with independent, governmental, federal, and state audit requirements.
- Manage the organization’s annual audit process.
- Oversee fund and grant accounting, including preparation of grant budgets and reports.
- Manage cash-flow planning and relationships with financial institutions.
- Oversee billing, collections, receivables, patient revenue recognition, and third-party revenue processes.
- Monitor financial performance and prepare analyses for current and potential programs and services.
- Support contract development, negotiation, and the identification of new funding sources.
- Work closely with the Finance Committee of the Board to develop short-, medium-, and long-term financial plans.
- Serve as the CEO’s liaison to the Finance Committee.
- Provide financial oversight for capital development and improvement projects.
- Recruit, develop, and retain a capable finance team.
- Maintain financial systems and processes that support continuous improvement, audit readiness, and accreditation requirements.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
- CPA and/or MBA preferred.
- At least 10 years of progressive finance experience.
- A minimum of 3 years in a comparable senior financial leadership position.
- Significant finance experience within a nonprofit organization in Connecticut or a neighboring state.
- Demonstrated experience managing complex funding and revenue streams.
- Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting, fund accounting, and grant accounting.
- Experience with federal and state grants, regulatory compliance, cost allocations, and funding reports.
- Experience managing Medicaid and Medicare audits.
- Strong understanding of financial reporting standards, internal controls, budgeting, cash-flow management, and audit requirements.
- Experience overseeing billing, collections, receivables, and revenue-recognition processes.
- Strong executive communication, interpersonal, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively with executive leadership, boards, funding agencies, auditors, employees, and external stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to perform in a fast-paced and complex operating environment.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
